Miyajima Island

A couple weeks ago we decided to visit Miyajima Island. Most people visit this nearby island soon after arrival. We had planned to go multiple times but something always came up when we were going to go. I opted to leave out most of the shots without the family although we took many. If you want to see all the neat stuff Miyajima offers, just click on the link.

Here, we are waiting for the ferry which will take us to the island.
As you can see, the kids were fascinated as things were fast-paced. As soon as the ferry docked, out drove the cars and people quickly got off the craft.
As soon as we got to to the island, there were deer...everywhere! These deer would walk right up to you and let you pet them. Both kids thought it was awesome, although Zach did manage to upset one that sort of nipped at him. Hmmm. Imagine that! This might be a good time to mention that Zach is two, and a terror, which is why you often see him leashed although we call it wearing the puppy. I can tell most people appreciate that we do this. The Japanese seem to think the puppy is comical as we get many comments, points, smiles, etc.
Charlie checking out the map to see what all we should do while visiting.
Here was an attempt to get a smiling shot of us in front of the Torri Gate. Two out of three isn't bad.
Clara taking a break to show some attitude. She LOVES to pose.
This picture was taken at the Itsukushima shrine. Zach was at the end of his rope so I spent most of the time trying to get him to chill out. Charlie got several pictures that looked pretty neat though.
It was so hot (as it seems all days are now) so we stopped for some shaved ice. Yum!

We had a lovely time and will go back. With all the walking though we decided to wait until it cools down a bit.
