The Head

Clara is rather artistic, and Zach is showing signs of this as well.  He loves to draw and spends a great deal of time doing this.  I remember documenting some of Clara's early creations so thought I would do the same for him.  Today he brought this one to us.  He names them.

Today I present to you The Head.

Clara's Short Story

We recently wrote short stories in composition, and the kids all did such fantastic jobs that I decided to put them together for a collection of stories of suspense. I discovered Lulu.com.  That is an amazing site.  I was able to create a softcover book that looks very professional, and it took exactly one week to arrive here.  They offer different services, but what I did looks great, is affordable, and we could have chosen to offer them up for sale on Amazon even.  I would recommend any budding authors to give this a try.  My plan is to combine Clara's writings next year into a hardcover book.

I'm sharing Clara's story.  She certainly scared me!

Preteens:  The Terror of Grim Caves

by

Clara Hollowell

Ten-year-old Clara, Grace and Amelia woke up at 6:00 AM.  They took a taxi to the Huddle House where they met their 11-year-old friend,  Jack. Jack started reading the newspaper then all of a sodden his head popped up. “THE GRIM REAPER IS HAUNTING THE SEA WALL,” exclaimed Jack. Then suddenly Clara’s phone rang.  “It looks like I have go home to look after my little brother, Zach,” said Clara. “I’ll help you,” said Grace. “ Okay,” said Clara.  “Amelia, you and Jack go investigate the sea wall.” “No way!  I’m not getting caught by the grim reaper!” shouted Jack.  “Jack, he’s just Creepy to me.  You have to go,’’ said Clara.  ‘’Okay,’’ said Jack.   Then he looked at his watch nervously.  “I I’m late for football practice’’ said Jack.  “Tell us you’re not scared, Jack,” teased Amelia. “I already said I’d go.
Clara and Grace got home and saw the house was a wreck. The curtains were pulled down and the fridge was tipped over.  There was a mark of an axe on the wall.  Zach was nowhere in the house. “We’re too late!” said Clara. “Who do you think did this?” asked Grace. Clara started, “The only person who carries an axe is,” and they both finished, “the Grim Reaper!”  “We need to tell Amelia and Jack” said, Grace. Clara quickly pulled out her phone and called Amelia to let her know what was happening and they need to come over to her house.
When they arrived Jack said, “Holy smokes, Amelia! This is bad.”  “Look at the mark of that axe,” said Clara. “I’ll take a picture,” said Amelia. Then she got out her camera and took the picture. “We should take this to Detective Bradecamp’s office”. When they got there, he said there’s nothing he can do. He said he knows where the grim reaper lives, which is in Grim Caves. When they left they were on their way to Grim Caves. When they got to Grim Caves, they saw Zach lying on the floor. Then they heard a deep voice say he will die.  “I’ll take his place!” said Jack. “Very well,” said the voice and Jack fell to the ground. “There is a spell that can save him and get rid of Creepy,” whispered Clara.
They went to the library and found the spell book and found out there was an hour before he would die. They went back to Grim Caves and Clara said, “CALLA TALLA EXETARTA.” They saw Creepy crumble to dust and Jack wake up. The new headline read: Preteens Solve Grim Reaper Haunting. They got one thousand dollars and adopted a husky named Fluffy. They solved many other mysteries together.
